Writing sense

31 March 2008

C is often telling me about how good an author Neil Gaiman is, but apart from his TV series Neverwhere and his biography of Douglas Adams I’ve not yet found time to explore his writing.

Until today when someone pointed me towards a post on his blog explaining his frustrations with Vista, and how it doesn’t work. Well, yes [avoids the obvious anti-Microsoft rant]. He suggests two options – get a Macbook Air (a very lovely and much coveted thing), or switch to Linux Ubuntu. In my opinon, either would be miles better than what he already has. And having used both Mac and Linux OSs I would never, ever return to the clunkiness of Windows.

So, obviously he writes sense. Maybe I should seek out a book …

New Year, New Look

1 January 2008

I’ve thought for a while that the site has been looking a little bit tired lately, so I’ve given it a bit of an overhaul.

I hope you like the new look.

And I might carry on tweaking it for a few days yet …

I don’t believe it!

22 August 2007

Those of you who know me will realise I’m fond of gadgets and technology, so it should come as no surprise that I frequent a many websites to quench my thirst for geeky stuff. One of my favourites is Shiny Shiny, a gadget blog aimed at and written by girls. Despite its over use of pink it’s full of useful news and reviews of the gadgety world, from a female perspective.

But something’s appeared to which I just have to shout “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO”!

It’s this article which suggests that girls are genetically programmed to like pink! Well, I’m certainly not. I dislike anything pink and always have done. Even my mum gave up trying to get me to wear pink dresses when I was little. And I despise the ‘ooh, let’s make it in pink to appeal to the girls’ attitude of some makers of gadgets and technology.

So, you get the idea – I don’t like pink.

Reading the article and the research it reports on (well the way I read it, anyway) it turns out that it’s red, not pink, that we’re programmed to prefer. Now that makes much more sense. Red is good. so you can keep your girly pink – I’ll go for the red every time.
