Those of you who know me will realise I’m fond of gadgets and technology, so it should come as no surprise that I frequent a many websites to quench my thirst for geeky stuff. One of my favourites is Shiny Shiny, a gadget blog aimed at and written by girls. Despite its over use of pink it’s full of useful news and reviews of the gadgety world, from a female perspective.
But something’s appeared to which I just have to shout “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO”!
It’s this article which suggests that girls are genetically programmed to like pink! Well, I’m certainly not. I dislike anything pink and always have done. Even my mum gave up trying to get me to wear pink dresses when I was little. And I despise the ‘ooh, let’s make it in pink to appeal to the girls’ attitude of some makers of gadgets and technology.
So, you get the idea – I don’t like pink.
Reading the article and the research it reports on (well the way I read it, anyway) it turns out that it’s red, not pink, that we’re programmed to prefer. Now that makes much more sense. Red is good. so you can keep your girly pink – I’ll go for the red every time.

Well, I’m settling in nicely to my new house. And I’m starting to get really into self-sufficiency. I blame too much of my childhood watching The Good Life. Although actually I think it has more to do with Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage programmes, which really showed what you can do with a little garden and some effort.
So, now I have a garden I decided that I want it to do something for me, so I’ve been clearing the beds of weeds (and there were a lot!!), digging over the soil and generally preparing for planting. I need to find a good local (and cheap) source of manure to improve the soil, but I’ve not found anything yet.
I have got a compost bin from my local council which I am slowly filling up with compostable rubbish, but it will be a while before I get anything useful from it.
And I’m planning what I can plant and grow – I don’t want anything to demanding, and I certainly don’t want to be inundated with anything. So do I plant a few of a lot of things and hope they produce enough fruit and veg? Or do I risk having too much, where I have to give away part of my crop?
Hmmm … the decisions ….

Some fantastic news (well I think so) – a Doctor Who/Goodies crossover. Well, not really, but both Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor are in the recordings for new Eighth Doctor adventures for BBC7.
I thought you might also like to know that this week Tim and I are recording episodes of Dr Who for audio CD and BBC7 broadcast – don’t know when yet.
I did mine on Monday with Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith as the Doctor and Lucie. Also in the cast were James Fleet, Nick Brimble, Samantha Hughes and Duncan James. The ep is called ‘Max Warp’ and I play a sort of inter-galactic Jeremy Clarkson! It was really good fun!
Tim does his on Friday – it’s called ‘The Zygon who fell to Earth’ and Tim plays a Zygon, of course.
It’s odd, because I never pictured Tim as a Zygon …
I wonder if they’ll be asked to do the TV series??

Ok, to do some catching up …
As I posted a while ago, Not Going Out is getting a second series and I was supposed to go to one of the read-throughs a few weeks ago (I had priority tickets and everything), but it was the week of my move, so I’d got tickets for the Friday. Then it rained. About a month’s worth in a few hours. Consequently, as I didn’t have easy access to a boat, I didn’t make it. I’ll just have to wait for the series to hit the screens.
Also, I’ve been watching Heroes. I had a big debate whether to or not before the series began – I really didn’t want to have to commit myself to 20-odd weeks worth of television (why do they have to make a series so long? 13 weeks of Doctor Who is bad enough). In the end I thought I’d give it a go and watched the first two episodes, which were shown together. I wasn’t that enamoured. There’s one character, Hiro, a Japanese office worker whose story seemed fun and interesting (I could happily have just watched his story and cut out the others), but the rest I wasn’t bothered about. It certainly didn’t live up to the hype. So I wasn’t going to watch anymore, but then I was told that it picks up after the first few episodes. So I watched a few more. I’m still of the same opinion, although last night’s episode ended with a ‘future’ Hiro visiting one of the other characters – if he starts interacting with them I might start to care about them too and have to watch more. Damn.

I’ve finally got my broadband reconnected after my move! (only three weeks later!!)
I’ve got loads of stuff to catch up with on the blog, but I’ll post it when I’m a bit more sorted …
But I’m back – wooohooo!!!!!
